Bloom finished out 2021 on an awesome note with an off-season event featuring Sasha Devol, a Senior Engineer at Conduit Financial. Sasha is a queer, transfemme musician, designer, and engineer who works on promoting encryption and privacy, civic engagement, and sustainable communities. In our December event, Bloom community members got to hear Sasha share her learnings from her ten year career in the Tech industry. This included previously working for a web2 company that struggled with some of the challenges that Conduit solves today — providing equal access to financial services.

Bloom members and guests were fortunate enough to have a platform to hear directly from an engineer like Sasha, whose identities and experiences are an invaluable resource for the Bloom community and the web3 ecosystem at large. Sasha has had a non-traditional path as a software engineer, dedicating her time to other things she cares deeply about such as music and participating in civic engagement.

One particularly powerful component of the talk was her perspective on the deeper possibilities of web3: “There is a huge need, and blockchain and web3 are a huge part of it, to develop technologies that circumvent any kind of centralized control over free speech.” Sasha described her experience of seeing police forces track and target activists at the Oceti Sakowin, Sacred Stone Camp in support of the people of Standing Rock, as one of many that illuminated the power of these technologies and deepened her interest in the space.

The broader social and political ramifications of web3 are often passed over in the whirlwind of investment opportunities, but pursuing the rights to privacy, anti-censorship, and equality were essential elements of Sasha’s path to her current role at Conduit.

The Conduit founding team has been in the Crypto space for many years and seen the challenges and inefficiencies of making modern day usage of cryptocurrencies a reality. With their tools it is possible for companies to participate in DeFi “by simplifying compliance, development and supporting a customer-friendly experience.”

Conduit recently announced an incredibly successful seed round raising $17M USD, and is aiming to triple the size of their team during the next year. If joining Sasha on the Conduit team sounds exciting to you, check out their open roles right here! They are hiring for many positions, including both junior and senior engineers.

As Maeghan Smulders, the VP of People Operations put it, “We want to support the excitement and curiosity of those who want to build in Crypto/Defi and Web3. Even if you don’t see a position that is a fit, we love to chat with great people — get in touch at careers@conduit.financial!”
